Vitali Harmash

The orchestra's fluid, sometimes thunderous sound conjured all manner of dreamlike images in Dagni's mind
Все переливы и громы оркестра вызывали у Дагни множество картин, похожих на сны
Konstantin Paustovsky, “A Basket with Fir Cones” (1953)
Against an ambient backdrop, the barely audible sounds of glitch endure: the noise of unpredictable, broken, and therefore profoundly human patterns. The inclusion of two opposing forms or states is for Vitali Harmash a studied avoidance of monologic insistence, Two polar opposites are given equal weight, such that any contradictions or inconstancy might oppose stasis and sameness. In an interview not long ago. he voiced the related conviction that music should be used to express •an atmosphere, not a religion or ideology."
And then, in another step away from specificity, he admits to interpreting sound in terms of color alone. He perceives sound as chromatic shades. "Harmash and [my earlier solo project] i/dex are very different in terms of those colors. The former project is made from grey and dark green tones. From blackness, even. As for that's more like sepia photographs. Or a lighter green, with yellow and orange, too."
