The nightingale’s song is not free / To silence the roar of the sea!
Заглушить рокотание моря /Соловьиная песнь не вольна!
Aleksandr Blok (1880-1921)
Тhe Ukrainian saxophonist and flautist Orest Filippov accompanied his most recent recordings with a heartfelt monolog to audiences. Those same musical works, he said, offered “both concrete imagery and psychological states, together with my impressions and musings on them.” What, however, had promoted such vigorous mental and musical activity?
“I’ve long been bothered by a single question: why can’t we, people, live in peace? Why do we have so many wars and suffer so much violence, hatred, [cruel] politics, and anger towards one another? I spent much time thinking about these problems and eventually realized that we created them all…”
“Could matters be different? Can we conceive of a world in which people are socially developed, mentally aware, and love each other? In my music I’ve conjured up precisely that world––devoid of violence or politics. Without wars or hatred. A world of love, kindness, and endless beauty.”
