Kito Jempere (Kirill Sergeev): “Back in school I knew I’d never be a superstar; instead I’d become a true professional in my chosen field. Today I know precisely why I make music. I want people in the future to hear my work… and then do something significant.”
Tongue-in-cheek, he may tag his compositions as balearic or even “religious and spiritual,” but Sergeev is perfectly aware of the uplifting potential in dancefloor contentment.
His involvement in music can be traced back to piano lessons at the age of four. They did little to foster an appreciation for the classical tradition, however. By his teenage years he was more enamored with the ear-splitting clamor of Sonic Youth. And jazz, too… It was, however, the acquisition of a 486 PC that began the longest-lasting influence and enthusiasm of all: electronica. A debut solo LP emerged in 2014 and was soon followed by the formulation of an adult outlook on music––something akin to a manifesto. For some reason, this is written in the third person:
“For Kito Jempere, music has always been a way of capturing and then enhancing any of life’s moments. Especially those leaving a mark in history––either for himself or others. Although sometimes imperfect and flawed, his musical output is a reflection of his own identity, something that’s dedicated simultaneously to freedom and sincerity.”
“The universe of Kito Jempere is multifaceted. His expertise is not limited to music alone: the artist has been heavily involved in curated exhibitions at various cultural institutions around St. Petersburg for over a decade. Consequently he continues to evolve both professionally and personally: he is always on the move!” A dancefloor genre leads to an equally agile mind.
